Introduce your style
My tattooing styles are Fineline and Stipple-realism but I dabble in most styles as I am a curious person and a lover of fusion. I have always been fascinated by surrealism and anything a bit obscure/unsettling which I think coincides with Japanese mythology perfectly. I love Japanese art as it is something their culture always put a lot of importance on throughout their history. -
What made you choose this style?
Stipple-Realism will always have my heart, but it is a style in which the designing process is less drawing based and I LOVE to draw so for this design I took the opportunity to do so. As it is a T-shirt design I wanted to create something that was easily marketable and Japanese art is having a moment right now (as it should!). -
What was the inspiration behind this design?
I wanted to show my personality and make the piece a bit surreal and obscure which is why I decided to draw a Yokai (Japanese spirits/demons) I chose the Futakuchi-Onna because it makes sense drawing it from the back and the back has the most space for an intricate tattoo design. I thought this would be fitting with the idea behind the Inked Threadz brand. If we're going to put tattoo designs on t-shirts why not put a tattoo design with a tattoo on it? The Futakuchi-Onna is a very interesting character. She has a mouth at the back of her head usually hidden by her hair that is usually portrayed as having a mind of its own, demanding food and speaking independently. The stories linked to this Yokai are usually cautionary tales about being overly greedy or stingy or neglectful to the people in your care.
Worn with pride
